Psychologists say that a child crying when placed on the knee of the bearded man in the red suit is a perfectly normal reaction. It’s simply an inbuilt self-preservation mechanism to beware of strangers. Which explains why so many family albums contain photos of terrified tykes unimpressed with the festive photo opportunity.
